Backpacking in Michigan in 2026
Troop 5 has a long history of high adventure treks. After several years with out a high adventure committee. Troop 5 and now Troop 70 are taking a new look at how to take the leadership, learning, and service Scouts receive through out their Scouting career and providing opportunities high adventure opportunities to test themselves and push beyond the ordinary and see just what they are capable of.
Troop 5 and 70 are preparing to launch a backpacking high adventure in Michigan in June of 2026. Participants should be physically fit individuals who can carry at least 20%-50% of their body weight in a well fit backpack and be comfortable hiking 10-15 miles. These individuals should also, in most cases, be First Class rank. Although, upon request adult leadership may make exceptions, however, final decisions will take the safety of the individual and group into consideration as these are the most import factors.
Through out the year, the Troops will provide opportunity for the Scouts to practice skills and condition their bodies to preform the expected mental and physical conditions of the high adventure trek.
The Troops also will provide opportunity for Scouts to fundraise through out the year to help the Troop to offset the cost of the trip, with the remaining per Scout total due from each family close to the beginning of the trip. In addition, there are certain personal gear requirements each Scout will be expected to provide for themselves, however, the Troops and adult leaders are committed to assisting Scouts who may be lacking some or all of the items with borrowed items, or finding affordable solutions to personal gear needs.
