Court of Honor: Recognizing Achievement and Growth in Scouts

The Court of Honor, a distinctive name for an import ceremony, is arguably one of the most significant ceremonies within Scouts BSA. This ceremony, reminiscent of chivalric traditions, serves to publicly recognize and celebrate the achievements of Scouts. While individual Scouts are acknowledged at meetings following a Board of Review, the Court of Honor provides a dedicated platform to commend their accomplishments and inspire continued progress toward the Eagle Scout rank. Typically, our Troops host three Courts of Honor annually, inviting the community, including Scouts’ families, Charter Organization members, mentors, and friends. This event allows attendees to witness the positive impact of Scouting on the Scouts and the community.

A well-executed Court of Honor not only acknowledges and motivates Scouts who have attained ranks or merit badges but also encourages those who may not have achieved their goals in time for the ceremony.

Troops often encourage Scouts to plan and lead the ceremony, fostering their leadership skills. This experience can also fulfill a requirement for the Communication merit badge, which is a prerequisite for the Eagle Scout rank.

Adult leaders present awards, explaining their significance, and often utilize the platform to promote upcoming activities, fundraisers, and high-adventure trips. Additionally, Scouts typically share updates on activities since the previous Court of Honor.

Troop 5 and 70’s next Court of Honor is September 22,2025 at 7pm at Goshen First Church.
